AI Marking Explained

Understand how IB Marker's AI provides accurate, IB-aligned feedback on your answers.

How AI Marking Works

When you submit an answer, our AI system follows a rigorous process to provide accurate feedback:

1

Question Analysis

The AI identifies the question type, command term (explain, evaluate, etc.), topic area, and maximum marks available.

2

Mark Scheme Reference

Your answer is compared against IB-aligned marking criteria specific to the subject and question type.

3

Content Evaluation

The AI assesses factual accuracy, use of terminology, depth of explanation, and relevance to the question.

4

Feedback Generation

Detailed feedback is generated highlighting strengths, areas for improvement, and a model answer for reference.

Accuracy & Reliability

Our AI marking system has been developed with accuracy as a top priority:

Trained on IB Content

The AI has been specifically trained on IB curriculum content, mark schemes, and examiner reports.

Multiple Model Verification

We use advanced AI models with cross-verification for consistent, reliable results.

Continuous Improvement

The system is regularly updated based on new IB guidelines and user feedback.

Conservative Scoring

When uncertain, the AI errs on the side of caution to provide realistic exam expectations.

Important Note

While our AI provides excellent practice feedback, final exam marks are determined by official IB examiners. Use AI feedback as a learning tool, not a guarantee of your final grade.

Understanding Your Feedback

Each marked answer includes several components designed to help you improve:

IB Mark Scheme Alignment

Our marking follows official IB assessment practices:

Command Term Recognition

The AI recognizes and applies appropriate criteria based on command terms:

Define / State

Requires a brief, precise definition or fact. Full marks for accurate, concise responses.

Explain / Describe

Requires detailed information showing understanding. Marks awarded for depth and clarity.

Analyse / Compare

Requires examining relationships and differences. Marks for identifying key features and making connections.

Evaluate / Discuss

Requires balanced arguments and conclusions. Marks for considering multiple perspectives.

Limitations & Best Practices

To get the most accurate feedback, be aware of these considerations:

Current Limitations
  • Diagrams and graphs cannot be assessed - describe them in text where needed
  • Mathematical working should be shown step-by-step in text format
  • Very creative or unconventional answers may not receive full recognition

Best Practices for Accurate Feedback

  • Write Complete Answers

Don't use bullet points for essay questions. Write in full sentences as you would in an exam.

  • Use Proper Terminology

The AI recognizes and rewards correct use of subject-specific vocabulary.

  • Structure Your Responses

Clear paragraphs and logical flow help the AI assess your organizational skills.
